When I was growing up, things were a little slower. You grew up but, not too fast. We made friends but, not too many. And, of course, we knew there were three things you never did. You don’t cheat, you don’t steal, and you respected everyone. Now, we can have a discussion about the issues my generation faced. But, one thing we don’t have anymore is a sense of kindness.
I’m not talking about the smile and wave you give a coworker in the morning. I am talking about a genuine act of kindness towards another person. We’re missing that and, it’s time we brought it back. We used to check on one another. Go over to their house, bring them a cake, make sure they were okay. We also knew everyone’s names and, now most people couldn’t tell me two things about their next-door neighbors.
Therefore, since it’s World Kindness Day, I want to challenge you. I was sitting around thinking of some creative and easy ideas to bring a little joy into someone’s life. Nothing too crazy and, of course, nothing expensive. The only thing you need for these challenges are yourself, your heart, and, a few household supplies. So, if you accept the challenge, read on!
Stick It To Em’
This one’s simple. Using a pen and a pad of sticky notes, leave a nice message for someone! For example, I was out shopping and saw a funny bumper sticker. I laughed so hard that I decided to write the owner a note and, place it on the hood of their car.
It doesn’t have to be on the road either. It could be a coworker you know is dealing with a lot. Let them know you see what they do for everyone in the office. Tell them you appreciate their hard work and to keep it up. It’s all about spreading positivity.
Tag Somone
It’s safe to say most of us are on social media. However, do we ever think of the positive ways we could use it? I try to make sure I reach out to people I haven’t spoken to in a while and tell them how much I appreciate their friendship. It sounds silly because once a significant amount of time passes, we get apprehensive about talking to people. But, you never know what could happen.
Anyway, the point of this challenge is to tag someone in a post and tell them how much you appreciated the times you shared. You never realize how much you touch another person’s life sometimes. So, show your appreciation and let them know!
Be a Friend
It’s easy! Just be there for someone. Especially in a time where we’ve become so socially and politically divided. But, kindness has no identity and, that’s what makes it brilliant. When we’re just friendly to someone.
So, knock on a few doors this week. Let people know you’re thinking of them and, be intentional about it. Plus, bringing delicious snacks never hurt anyone! Just get out there and be kind today, we need it.
Oh, and Happy World Kindness Day!
